“You can’t do that normally,” said Shreve, a retired nuclear physicist who lives in Lakeside. “This is the one day, even though it’s a bad day.”
He shrugged at the weather and said: “Once you get going, you get warm.”
Shreve joined more than 3,000 cycling enthusiasts in the second annual Gran Fondo Colnago San Diego, a long-distance event that aims to bring the popular Italian tradition of mass-participation cycling to American cities.
